King Salman Park.

The King Salman Park Foundation has started construction on its upcoming Royal Arts Complex – a project spanning more than 500,000sq m (5.4 million sq ft.) and featuring immersive experiences designed to cater to culture and art in all of its forms.

Designed by the late Ricardo Bofill, the complex in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has been thought up with a blend of modern and traditional Saudi architecture, combining the two to honor the kingdom’s heritage.

A museum stands out as the anchor asset of the complex, with the 106-metre-tall (348ft) building taking a pyramid-like form.

A library will also feature, as will dedicated artists’ studios, and an institute featuring a 600-seat auditorium.

Artists in residence will be able to showcase their work in The Dome – a spheroid structure designed to be as impressive as the works within it.

The plan also includes a National Theatre, with the venue comprising a 2,300 seat multi-performance space, as well as a 650-seat theatre and three cinema halls.

Once complete the Royal Arts Complex will act as the Saudi capital’s heart for arts and culture offering “one-of-a-kind” experiences.

The complex will be part of the wider King Salman Park, which aims to provide a variety of environmental, cultural, sports, artistic, and entertainment options.

The park, which covers 16sq km (6.18sq mi) and will feature more than a million trees, is being developed in line with the Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to create a vibrant and healthy society, and to boost the global ranking of Riyadh among the “world’s top livable cities”.

King Salman Park (Hardscapes)

King Salman Park's hardscape design features a mix of architectural elements and natural topography, creating a unique and immersive experience. The park's landscape incorporates branching valleys inspired by wadi river beds, which converge towards the center of the park. A 7.2 km pedestrian walkway (loop) and numerous gathering spaces and activity areas are also part of the hardscape design.

Jeddah Projects.

Opera House

Drawing inspiration from the historical Al-Balad neighborhood, the Opera House celebrates culture and regional geography. Situated along the Red Sea waterfront, the opera house aims to connect residents and visitors to the sea through a culture spine under a natural canopy. Extending from the city, through the opera house, to the water, this “spine” forms an integral part of the Jeddah Central masterplan for the new Opera Quarter. Inspired by the urban layout of the historic Al-Balad, with its labyrinth lanes and busy night markets, the opera house integrates into its surroundings. Its architecture forms into an “urban archipelago,” with the urban form of the neighborhood being shaped over time. Al-Balad also inspired its geometric forms, offering a distinct appearance from different viewpoints. The design aims to present a dynamic composition of volumes, appearing as a twin-volume structure from the waterfront. The Jeddah Opera House is envisioned as a cultural hub. Its design boats versatile performance spaces, including a 150-seat Rehearsal Hall, a 750-seat Playhouse theater, and a 1500-seat Red Sea Theater. Additionally, the space will host various events, from world-class performances to community outreach and education initiatives.
